After waiting out the weather in Erieau it was finally time to set sail again. Leaving Erieau bright and early we headed off on the next leg of our journey to Bois Blanc Island (also known as Boblo) which is the bottom of the Detroit River.
Britt’s parents live here and we were planning a stop to spend a day with them. We sailed to Point Pelee following a shore breeze and as the wind shifted we had to motor sail. Not long after starting the engine it died. Turns out the fuel filters were clogged and changing the filters meant bleeding the fuel system of air. Tara worked on the engine while Britt solo sailed to keep us on course. Thankfully the engine worked again and we motor sailed the rest of the way. It was very flat and conditions were calm with the occasional puff but everything was head to wind.
Coming into the evening the conditions changed in our favour and we were able to sail the rest of the way. We traveled roughly 85nm over the course of 19 hours. Britt’s dad met us at the marina shortly before midnight and helped to both guide us in to a very small entrance and slip and then catch our lines as we docked.
The marina doesn’t see many sailboats. We ended up staying an extra day due to the fact that the starting battery was old and weak. Britt’s dad drove us to Windsor to do a bunch of shopping (including picking up a new battery) and then we all had dinner together at their place.
