Leaving South Hampton we headed towards Sarnia. This was going to be one of our longer trips.
We spent the day relaxing on the boat and doing some chores and finally got ready to set off around 7pm. We were going to do another night sail but also wanted to make sure we left the anchorage with some light. What we hadn’t realized was that while we knew we were anchored on a rock bottom we had drifted to within about 30ft of our anchor even with 175ft of chain out.
We got out of the anchorage and put our sail up. We averaged 6 knots for a good chunk of the night. Britt went down for a nap around 12am but we had to throw a tack in and she got up for that. We continued to sail through the night into the next day and tacked across the lake.
During our trip we were joined by a feathered friend. He stayed with us a couple of hours and by this point we were in the middle of the lake so we assumed he just needed a rest.
At one point during the sail Britt was sitting on her chair keeping watch and a bigger wave came along and knocked her into the cockpit.
Getting closer to the end of the day the wind was coming straight out of Sarnia and we got to within 30nm before we finally had to turn the engine on. We came under the Blue Water Bridge and since we were going with the current this time we were doing almost nine knots! We made it to Sarnia Bay Marina around 11pm and got settled in for the night.
