What a place! I’m getting ahead of myself but Bayfield is such a cute and quaint little town. Back to the start. We left Sarnia Bay Marina at 7:00am and headed towards Lake Huron.
The Blue Water bridge leading from the river into Lake Huron has the strongest current and while we were doing 7knots on the boat were only moving at about 3knots. Once through that we had finally made it to a new lake!
It was a foggy morning and we couldn’t see much. Not too long after getting into Lake Huron Tara said she could hear a horn. A freighter was in the shipping channel coming towards us and while we could hear the horn go off every minute we couldn’t see it. We stayed well outside of the channel and eventually spotted it as it drew nearer.
We spent the day motor sailing and made it to Bayfield around 4:30pm. Its a lovely little marina (although the most expensive we’ve been to) and we decided to take a walk to town for dinner. Kari (Britt’s family) had told us she loved Bayfield and loved a restaurant called the Black Dog Village Pub and Bistro so that’s where we decided to go. But of course we couldn’t just go straight there. We wandered through the town and stopped at a gift shop, a candy store and finally a Christmas store. We meet a lovely couple who were retiring and who owned a sailboat. So we stayed and talked with them for 40 minutes. Before we left they suggested coming back for Christmas in Bayfield (which we plan on doing) and when we finally left we headed towards food. We had a fantastic dinner and ended our night with a walk back to the boat along the beach.
