Our morning started at 4:15am and we left the dock around 5am.

It was a light wind day so we spent the majority of it motor sailing. I took a nap, we read books, played some games and saw one other boat the entire day. As much as it was uneventful it was the first time sailing that we couldn’t see land.

Very calm water (we had to motor at this point)

We watched the sunset and made it to Tobermory around 10:40pm. We got to watch the Chi Cheemaun come in ahead of us.

We traveled a total of 98nm at an average speed of 5.5kn and made the trip in just over 17 hours. We stayed in Tobermory for another two days and used that time to explore a bit of the downtown. We restocked on some groceries after a 3km walk round trip to the grocery store, visited a book store, some souvenir shops, got an ice cream, dropped some letters at the post office, went to a sweets shop and to a local hardware store. It was a bit rainy the first day but we sat under the dodger and read books and people watched for a good chunk of the afternoon.

Our second night at the marina was rough! Our slip was right inside the entrance and the wind and waves were coming directly into the channel. We eventually had to get up and add a fifth line straight across to the other side of the dock just to try and keep us from banging into the leeward side. We helped a fellow boater do the same thing and we put all of our fenders we owned on the starboard side of the boat to try to lessen the rub that was happening. After surviving the night we got up the next morning to go on a hike to see a lighthouse. We walked roughly 4km and had crab apple throwing contests and when we got back we shared some beaver tails. The rest of the afternoon was spent reading, wandering, people watching and eventually we had happy hour and dinner.
