Leg 9 Little Beckwith, ON – McCrae Lake, ON

We got under way shortly after 8:30am. Today is the day Tara’s friend Drew is coming for a visit and its a bit of a trek for all of us. Tara text Drew a pin she had dropped in the middle of nowhere near a set of rapids and said “can you get here” to which he replied “I think so”. And thus begun the journey of getting to Drew.

Our anchorage the morning we left (a few too many boats for us)

We sailed 14.6nm to a new anchorage and Drew drove an hour and a bit and hiked just over 9km to get to the pin.

We didn’t have great cell service but he managed to get a text saying he’d be to the pin in 20 minutes. So Tara and I sat waiting and suddenly his head popped up at the top of a cliff and he made his way down to us.

The rest of the day was spent swimming, snorkeling, rowing in the dinghy, and just catching up. Drew brought us eggs and hamburger buns so we made burgers for dinner and then built a bonfire in the evening.

The next day we got up and Tara and Drew spent time lounging on the bow of the boat and Britt took herself on a row in the dinghy. We explored part of the land nearby and while there skipped some rocks. Since Drew had to leave later that day we decided we needed one more swim, so got all of the snorkel gear out and spent an hour and a half exploring around the boat and the shore.

That afternoon we dropped Drew off back at his trail and Tara and I went back and made a bonfire on shore again where we cooked hot dogs and s’mores and then we stayed out and watched the stars. There’s no light pollution so everything is bright and the milky way was clear to see.

This has been one of our favourite places to stay so far. We stayed a third day and this was the day we needed to adult a bit. Tara did some research on our next anchorage and the weather and I cleaned the boat. We also did two loads of laundry and hung them out over the life lines to dry in the sun.

But it cant be all work and no fun so we swam and rowed the dinghy back to look at turtles. I also rowed out into the bay to make a birthday call and to try to call Dad. We went for another swim, Tara flew the drone and got some amazing shots and videos and we made tortillas from scratch. The rest of the day was spent watching TV and reading because it was too hot to do much else.
